Women in Mining UK Announces New Treasurer and New Policy Committee

By 05/01/2024News

London – 5 January 2024: Women in Mining UK (WIM UK) is pleased to announced Louise Van Twist as our new Treasurer and our New Policy Committee.

WIM UK Treasurer
Louise brings to the WIM UK team over 15 years of expertise within the mining industry, encompassing both extensive corporate and operational experience. This includes roles at Newcrest Mining, Harmony Gold, Evolution Mining, Fitzroy Mining and currently as a Financial Planning Analyst at Adriatic Metals. Through her new role as WIM UK Treasurer, Louise will oversee all of the financial affairs of the organisation.

Policy Committee
The new Policy Committee has been developed to bring together collective expertise on women’s rights in mining to help influence and shape the UK minerals agenda. The overall objective will be to provide policy recommendations and research initiatives to UK leadership to help improve the experiences of women and girls impacted by mining and the associated minerals value chain. This is to ensure that women’s voices and gender considerations are included, elevated, and represented in policies related to mining which are coming out of the UK. This, we envision, will then help to inform and benefit wider international policies and regulations.

Members of the new committee include Allison George (DPI Mining), Estelle Levin-Nally (Levin Sources), Fabiana Di Lorenzo (Responsible Business Alliance), Kirsty Benham (Critical Minerals Association), Ruth Benbow (White & Case), and Susannah Mclaren (Cobalt Institute).

Dr. Stacy Hope, WIM UK Managing Director, said: “After a very busy, impactful and exciting 2023, I am delighted to be starting the new year with these announcements.

“Given Louise’s extensive experience in the industry she is a welcome addition who will bring invaluable skills to WIM UK. I am looking forward to working with her as we continue to grow our team in the UK.

“Critical minerals are front and centre of the UK’s current policy discussions, which makes our new Policy Committee particularly timely. Ensuring that women’s voices are heard and recognised will be critical if we are to build a mining industry that can responsibly produce these vital resources.”
