By 25/11/2024News

London – 20 November 2024:

Women in Mining UK (WIM UK) announces the publication of the 2024 edition of its 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining” (WIM 100), a biennial publication that showcases the wealth of female talent within the global mining industry. The WIM 100 celebrates 100 women from around the world, highlighting their transformative contributions to mining. It also helps to identify role models for peers and future generations alike.

This year the WIM UK team received 570 individual nominations and worked over six months to select the 100 finalists.  This is the WIM100’s most diverse year to date, with women finalists nominated from 41 countries  compared to 40 in 2022 and 32 in 2020. This is a significant increase from the 15 countries we had nominations from when we first started the Initiative back in 2013 and demonstrates the global reach of the WIM100.

Dr. Stacy Hope, Managing Director of WIM UK, stated: “It is a privilege to recognise and honour these 100 remarkable women, whose voices and stories showcase the rich diversity and resilience within the mining sector. Having witnessed the evolution of the WIM100 since its inception in 2013, this edition is particularly noteworthy for the depth of roles and responsibilities these women hold, spanning from assistant and junior specialist roles to executive leadership, as well as the significant expansion in the geographic representation of those nominated. Their achievements offer inspiration to their peers and the next generation, and also reinforce that progress in diversity is achievable.”

Gina Jardine, Chair of WIM UK said, “The 2024 edition of the WIM100 celebrates the trailblazing women who are breaking barriers and driving innovation in the mining industry during this pivotal shift to a low-carbon economy. As the global conversation on critical minerals intensifies, it’s crucial to recognise the people behind this transformation. Women enrich the industry through diverse experiences that push forward sustainability, safety, and community engagement. While challenges remain, the achievements of these 100 inspirational women highlight why the mining sector must lead the way in prioritising diversity, equity, and inclusion to foster a resilient and innovative future.”

The full 2024 WIM100 publication can be downloaded from the Women in Mining UK website and we want to thank our sponsors  BMO Capital Markets, BCG (Boston Consulting Group), Innomotics and Stratum for their continued support.
