By 07/05/2025News

Press Release
London – 7 May 2025:

Women in Mining UK (WIM UK)  is pleased to announce the appointment of Lucy Crane as Managing Director of the organisation, and an Executive Director of the WIM UK Board of Directors, effective 7th May 2025. She succeeds Dr. Stacy Hope, who will continue to work with WIM UK.

Lucy brings with her a wealth of experience as a geologist and sustainability consultant, with a long-standing commitment to driving positive change across the mining industry. Most recently, Lucy served as ESG & Sustainability Manager at Cornish Lithium, where she led the company’s approach to environmentally and socially responsible resource development. She now works as an industry consultant, advising organisations on integrating sustainability and ethical practices into their operations.

Lucy continues to be an advocate for diversity and inclusion in the mining sector, and has been a WIM UK volunteer for over a decade. During her five years as Head of the Membership, Education & Outreach Committee, she helped shape initiatives that supported the next generation of talent and promoted greater representation across different facets of the mining industry. She is also a founding committee member of Young Mining Professionals London.

Lucy holds an undergraduate degree in Earth Sciences from Oxford University and a Master’s in Mining Geology from the Camborne School of Mines. In 2019, she delivered a TEDx talk titled “Mining Our Way to a Low Carbon Future”, which continues to inspire conversations about the crucial role of mining in the global energy transition.

Gina Jardine, Chair of Women in Mining UK, commented:
“On behalf of the entire board, I would like to thank Stacy for her outstanding service and unwavering commitment to advancing the role of women in the mining industry through her leadership at WIM UK. During her tenure, Stacy brought greater visibility to the incredible work that our organisation does, as well as participating in building the narrative around future-proofing the industry. We look forward to continuing our close collaboration with Stacy and to having her ongoing support as a valued part of our Women in Mining community network.

“We are delighted to welcome Lucy as our new Managing Director. She brings with her not only deep technical expertise and a strong sustainability focus, but also a proven passion for making mining a more inclusive and forward-thinking industry. We look forward to working with Lucy as she leads WIM UK into its next chapter.”

Lucy Crane added:
“I am extremely excited to step into the role of Managing Director at WIM UK, an organisation that I have been a part of for so many years. I look forward to building on Stacy’s incredible work, continuing to foster an inclusive community and ensuring that sustainability and responsible practices remain at the heart of our industry’s future.”

The WIM UK board once again extends its sincere gratitude to Stacy for her exceptional leadership, and warmly welcomes Lucy into her new role.
