Women in Mining UK Breakfast Fireside Chat

April 9 at 08:00 - 10:00

‘In Conversation with Chief Christine Walkem’

We are delighted to welcome you to a fireside chat with Chief Christine Walkem, the elected Chief of the Cooks Ferry Indian Band in British Columbia, Canada and Chair of the Board of Directors for the Citxw Nlaka’pamux Assembly, K’en T’em Management Corp, and Cantex Mining Services. A principled and strategic leader, she brings both lived experience and Nation-level vision to complex negotiations with industry and government.

This conversation will speak to the evolving landscape of Indigenous governance in Canada, where Nations are playing a central and essential role in shaping sectors including such as mining. The discussion will highlight Chief Walkem’s leadership experience, and her work to strengthen governance structures and Indigenous led approaches to impact assessment, agreement making and regulatory engagement –  grounded in the recognition of Indigenous jurisdiction, collective rights and the enduring authority of the Nation over its lands and future. Her perspective offers valuable lessons for global audiences interested in Reconciliation, rights‑based governance, and more equitable models of partnership.
