By 04/03/2020March 6th, 2020News

London – 4 March 2020: Women in Mining UK (WIM) is pleased to announce an industry partnership with global consulting and technology company Deswik.

Alex Buck, WIM Managing Director, said, “We are delighted to welcome Deswik as our first Industry Partner, a new category of sponsorship that we’ve launched to complement our overall partnership model.

WIM counts on the support of our Partners, which include some of the largest companies in the sector, to provide high profile and visible support for our mission – to promote the employment, retention and progression of women in the mining industry, and raise awareness of the sector as a great career choice for women.

We look forward to working with Deswik to increase women’s interest in mining as an industry, especially in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). 35% of STEM higher education students in the UK are women but only 22% are in the STEM workforce (1). It’s important for organisations like WIM and companies like Deswik to work together to increase both the percentage of women studying these important careers as well ensure that they are to join and advance within the mining industry”.

Calliope Lalousis, Regional Manager at Deswik for EMEA and CIS, continued, “We’re excited to become WIM’s first Industry Partner. As a strong supporter of women in STEM, Deswik is working hard to counter the current substantial shortage of female employees in the STEM industries. By partnering with organizations like WIM and supporting their initiatives, we aim to raise awareness on career opportunities for women in the mining industry.”

Deswik is a global consulting and technology company delivering efficiency-focused solutions to the mining industry through software, consulting and training solutions.  The company is headquartered Brisbane, Australia and employs a team of 300 across nine countries.
