Women in Mining is excited to announce five technical internship projects for summer 2020, held in partnership with three different companies.

Altus is a project and royalty generator in the mining sector, focused on Africa. The Company has a diversified and growing portfolio of eighteen projects, spanning six countries and across six different commodities. Their business is managed from the UK head office in Oxfordshire and projects are active in Mali, Ethiopia, Morocco, Liberia, Ivory Coast and Cameroon.

Golden Star is an established West African gold mining company that owns and operates the Wassa and Prestea mines situated on the prolific Ashanti Gold Belt in Ghana, West Africa. The Company has two producing mines in Ghana and is a high grade, low cost, non-refractory gold producer.

Petropavlovsk plc is a gold mining company with operations in the Far East of Russia. The Company is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index. The Company’s operational assets include three mines; Pioneer, Albyn and Malomir and the Pressure Oxidation (“POX”) Hub, a technologically-advanced plant designed to process refractory gold ores. Mining is principally undertaken as open-pit with smaller underground mining operations at Pioneer and Malomir.
The internships will be based at the UK offices of the partner companies and may include international travel to operation sites.*
*Please note that the ability to host internships in summer 2020 will be dependent on the UK and global COVID-19 situation. WIM and the partner companies are hoping that they will be able to go ahead and therefore recruiting on the assumption that they will do so. In the event of disruption due to COVID-19, it is at the partner companies’ discretion whether to delay, postpone or cancel the 2020 internship projects offered.
The internships will take place over 6 – 8 weeks during summer 2020* and are open to female BSc / Masters students who are in their final year of study or have graduated within the last two years and have fewer than three months of existing experience. All internships will be paid a fair wage.
