On Wednesday 26th April 2017, Women in Mining hosted their annual London speed-mentoring dinner at Jamie’s Italian in Piccadilly. The evening was a fantastic success, with 25 members making the most of the opportunity to network in an informal setting and glean advice from the mentors present.
WIM would once again like to extend our thanks to the mentors who kindly gave up their time and who between them had a wealth of experience across the breadth of the mining sector. The mentees came from a wide range of backgrounds and had clearly put a lot of thought in to the questions that they came prepared with. Advice was sought on issues ranging from which events people should attend to stay up to date in the industry, too much broader topics surrounding career direction and how to achieve a work-life balance. The ‘speed-dating’ format of the evening requires people to change places between each course enabling the attendees to speak to almost everybody who there. This all ran very smoothly and people appreciated the chance to chat to mentors who had differing perspectives on how they might shape their future careers.
Overall both mentors and mentees made some strong new connections from the evening, many of whom may not have crossed paths were it not for events such as this – and the night was enjoyed by all!
